No other property in Warrnambool can offer you exclusive fresh and salt water fishing within 50 metres of your accommodation to just share recreational time by the Hopkins river with friends away from the everyday life stresses.
Property owner Andrew Robinson has an extensive background knowledge of the fishing hotspots, combined with the right advice on bait and where to source it and of course the right times to fish!  Staying at the riverside accommodation, means you can fish the fresh water and the salt water at your leisure!

When intending to fish any water whether it be freshwater, estuary or saltwater, a vital part of the preparation should include seeking the relevant requirements, and fishing laws pertaining to that water.
All anglers should obtain a copy of the current Victorian Recreational Fishing Guide which is available free at all Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Offices and fishing tackle outlets.
A recreational fishing licence is needed if you are in the age group 18 - 70 years of age, unless you are the holder of a Victorian Senior card, Veterans Affair Pensioner Card, Victorian Affair Repatriation Health Card. Buy a 2 day Recreational licence if you are only staying and fishing for a weekend. This will set you back $ 5.50. On the other hand if you intend on fishing over a holiday break, you would be advised to buy a 28 day Recreational licence for $ 11. For the serious angler, a yearly licence will set you back $ 22.
Visiting anglers to Warrnambool and district for the first time will naturally be keen to learn about the fishing hotspots! Warrnambool Radio Station 3YB, provides a comprehensive fishing report each day from October to Easter which can be heard at 8.40am and 1.05pm. This report is given by a Warrnambool fishing identity, it give you details of where the fish are biting in the Warnambool area and handy hints on the fishing tactics producing the best results.

Fisheries Victoria stock the Hopkins River annually with trout which provides excellent fishing The anglers target Bream, Estuary Perch, Mullet, Mulloway and Eels.
Within a few minutes of the Hopkins River property there is an extensive floating pontoon for the bank angler who just wants to fish and a boat launching ramp capable of handling boats up to 5 metres for the more serious fishermen at Jubilee Park. Dingly hire is available from the Hopkins River Caravan Park if you decide you want to see the river from a different perspective or just sneak up on that big one!
Above the estuary waters, which end at Tooram Stones, which is the Fresh water side of our property. This is where anglers seek to catch the big  brown trout, estuary perch and redfin. Estuary perch taken on the Fresh water side are significantly  larger than  those caught in the Hopkins Estuary which is the salt water side of the property.
Estuary Perch is commonly caught in size from half a kilogram upwards and not uncommon for fish to be caught up to 2 kilograms.
Estuary perch can be caught up to and only as far as the Hopkins Falls some 14 km above the limit of estuarine waters.

Popular Bream spots include Tooram Stones, The Pass, Hens and Chickens and the Blue Hole. Bream provide the angler excellent sport throughout the year with early morning and evenings being the best times for targeting them. Bream tend to congregate in set areas particulary during the day. If you dont get a bite, keep shifting until you hit them! It is not uncommon to be moving every 15 minutes until you find them!
Popular baits are shrimps, podworms, crabs, white bait and black crickets can be sourced on the property when available. Other successful baits used are prawns, sand worms and at times earthworm.
Bream are selective and it is often best to be prepared with at least two types of bait.
Podworms can be obtained with a bait pump at the mouth of the Hopkins River  which is 10 kilometres down river in Warrnambool and is a familiar sight for passers by. Bream and Estuary Perch can be taken by soft plastics such as Squidgys.
Bring your esky as you want to take your fish home with you! Ice can be bought within a few minutes of the property.

As our waterways are important to us and the future generations, we ask that if you use it and no longer need it, please dispose of it properly. Keep the Hopkins River Tooram Stones for future generations.
